Madrid promotes the theater and music season to attract tourism

Madrid, Sep 22 (EFE).- Madrid aims to promote cultural tourism in the capital through one of the major attractions in this segment, the theatre.

For this reason, the Mayor of Madrid, José Luis Martínez-Almeida, accompanied by the Delegate for Culture, Tourism and Sports, Andrea Levy, the Delegate Councilor for Tourism, Almudena Maíllo, and the President of the Association of Producers and Theaters of Madrid (Aptem), Jesús Cimarro, presented the campaign ‘Come to the theater, live Madrid’ this afternoon in Plaza del Callao.

Created last year to contribute to the recovery of Madrid’s theater scene, this promotional initiative is now back to continue to boost this sector and the arrival of new visitors, attracted by what will be a “historic” theater season.

The mayor, accompanied by producers from Madrid and actors such as Josema Yuste, Santiago Urrialde, Luis Piedrahita, Magüi Mira or Natalia Millán, assured in the presentation that “Madrid cannot be understood without our performing arts, without our theater”. and has expressed an “infinite gratitude” to all actors, “those who are on the tables, in the offices, in the stage, in dressing rooms, to all those who are responsible for the function being performed”, emphasizes the Consistory in a press release .

Martínez-Almeida has explained the value of this industry for the city of Madrid. “Thanks to the great theater world, Madrid is a leading city in the world”, recalling that “we are the fifth world capital in theater, the first capital in the world in musicals in Spanish and only during this season we will double the number of musicals in the city of Madrid compared to 2019”.

After considering that “we cannot understand Madrid without culture, since culture is the air we breathe in this city that allows us to go on from day to day”, the councilor encouraged people to “have a of the wonderful theater or music productions we have in our city.

The City Council, through the delegated area of ​​tourism and in collaboration with Aptem, is promoting this campaign highlighting the great theatrical agenda of the capital, full of unique proposals that can only be experienced in Madrid.

This 22/23 season, the city has “the best theater offer in its history”, all kinds of productions, 13 large-format musicals and hundreds of stage titles, reinforcing Madrid’s image as a tourist, cultural and leisure destination. entertainment and world capital of musicals in Spanish.

The ‘Come to the theatre, live Madrid’ campaign will be broadcast until November 1 in the Madrid region and in the cities of Barcelona, ​​​​​​Valencia and Seville, three of the main national tourism stations.

According to Aptem, the six major musicals that were on the program in 2019, the year before the pandemic, had a total of 1.6 million viewers, good for a turnover of 109.7 million euros.

In the 22/23 season, Madrid’s calendar is full of great theatrical events and shows, with musicals being one of the main attractions, thanks to productions that have just been released or are about to arrive, such as ‘malinche’Singing under the rain’Mathilde’ or ‘The endless story’; others consolidated as ‘The lionking’, with over ten years of experience in the city; and those yet to come, such as the premiere of ‘aladdin’ including in 2023.
