An amphibious plane helps put out the only uncontrolled fire in Cantabria

Santander, Sept. 23 (EFE).- The Cantabria forest firefighting operation continues this Friday to extinguish the Polaciones fire, with the help of an amphibious aircraft of the Ministry of Ecological Transition, because it is difficult to access and ecological value, and that of Sejos, who yesterday also concentrated the efforts of the brigades, considered controlled.

To stabilize the Polaciones fire, the 43 Group amphibious aircraft, coordinated by the Ministry of Ecological Transition, is currently working; a group of forest firefighters equipped with a fire truck; Natural environment agents of the Ministry of the Environment; and the Leon Forest Fire Reinforcement Brigade (BRIF).

The Cantabrian Executive also reports that three new fires have been started in Arenas de Iguña, Herrerías and Voto in recent hours, although the first two have been extinguished and the one in Voto is under control.

In the Sejos, which is also being monitored, agents of the natural environment work together with a squad of forest firefighters equipped with a fire truck.

In September, 46 forest fires have been registered in Cantabria so far, of which only the Polaciones, Sejos and Voto fires are still active.

The level 2 forest fire alarm remains active in the 13 forest regions, in addition to enforcing the fire ban throughout the autonomous community.

The government of Cantabria recalls that fires are prohibited and calls for “an end to the social complicity that protects arsonists, whose actions cause serious environmental and economic damage and pose a risk to public health and people’s lives.”

For this reason, it calls on citizens to identify these people, avoid risky practices and cooperate with the authorities to report any sign of fire by contacting 112, the Ministry of Rural Development or the Guardia Civil.
