Santa Cruz de Tenerife (EFE).- The Directorate-General for Security and Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has this Friday declared the maximum warning from 00:00 on Saturday due to rain throughout the Autonomous Community, due to the fact that south of the archipelago a large area with showers and thunderstorms arises.
Conditions are expected to be conducive to the development of a tropical depression and this process is forecast to affect the western (southwest) part of the Autonomous Community initially, starting on Saturday, and extending through the weekend to the whole archipelago.
Widespread rainfall in the form of showers is also expected, which may be of moderate intensity, not limited to being locally strong or very strong, nor does it exclude precipitation accumulations equal to or greater than 60-100 liters per square meter in 24 hours.
The Directorate General for Safety and Emergencies does not rule out the possibility of storms with showers or downpours that cause frequent heavy and short-term precipitation.
In view of these forecasts, it recommends that citizens pay attention to the weather forecasts and the recommendations of the authorities in this regard, and to check the condition of the roofs, flat roofs and water drums, as well as drains and downspouts, and that, although the sky is clear, don’t park your vehicle in the canyon bed.
It also recommends having flashlights and candles on hand, as well as camping gas stoves in anticipation of a lack of electricity, drinking water, medicines and a battery-powered radio, as well as closing and securing windows and doors to prevent water from entering. .
Other recommendations are not to go hiking or camping until normalcy is restored, and to avoid traveling. EFE
