The first weekend of autumn brings rain, especially in the Canary Islands, and cool

This Friday, the rain will be weak, but persistent in Galicia and the Cantabrian area, to intensify from Saturday; Showers and storms will hit areas of the Eastern Peninsula and the Balearic Islands on Saturday and Sunday, locally strong in northern Aragon, Catalonia and the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands.

Faced with this situation, the Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has this Friday activated the orange alarm (significant risk) in all provinces of Catalonia because of rain that will accumulate in one hour to 40 liters per square meter; in Aragon and in the Comunidad Valencia there is a yellow warning (risk) also because of rain, with an accumulation of between 10 and 20 liters in one hour.

In the Canary Islands, the approach of a tropical depression is expected from Saturday, leading to widespread, strong or very strong and sustained rainfall, leading to large accumulations in the western islands especially on Sunday.

The Aemet warned this Friday that the United States National Hurricane Center is already estimating a “70% chance of a tropical cyclone forming in the Atlantic Ocean” in the next 48 hours, and that it is already developing as a tropical depression. would move north from Cape Verde.

The tropical depression is not expected to pass over the Canary Islands, so “the wind will not be a general negative factor”, but the Spanish islands will not be spared the effects of this phenomenon in this area of ​​the Atlantic, they have emphasized of the Meteorology Agency.

As for the temperatures, over the weekend “they will drop sharply across the country”, they have noted from Aemet, although today the drops will start in the northwest, on Saturday they will reach the rest of the Atlantic slope, high and medium Ebro and the Canary Islands, and on Sunday they will reach the Mediterranean.

Most notable in terms of values ​​is that they will be more typical of autumn, with maximums not exceeding 20 degrees in the north, although the muggy and heat will still persist in some parts of the Mediterranean.

In provincial capitals, on Sunday, a day when the coolest atmosphere will have settled in almost the entire country, Ávila, Burgos, Vitoria and Oviedo will reach a maximum of 17 degrees, while in San Sebastián, Palencia, Santander and Zamora thermometers will rise. between 18 and 19 degrees.

On that day, the thermal drop will also be noticed in Albacete, Barcelona, ​​Bilbao, A Coruña, Cuenca, Huesca, Lleida, Logroño, Madrid, Ourense, Valencia, Teruel, Pontevedra and Salamanca with values ​​between 20 and 23 degrees .

Next week starts with showers and storms in the Canary Islands, locally strong, though less persistent, to gradually dissipate over the rest of the week, and in the north of the islands there will be only intervals of cloud with likely light rain biggest relief .

In the north of Galicia and in the Cantabrian area it will rain continuously throughout the week, accompanied by storms from time to time, while in the Mediterranean and the east of the peninsula storms will fall on Monday, which could be strong.

From Aemet, they have ensured that from Tuesday, except in the north of the peninsula, “a period of calm begins until Thursday”, when the rains are likely to be reactivated, first in the northern half of the peninsula and on the Balearic Islands and , faced on weekends, more generally.

As for temperatures, a week of “drops between Monday and Wednesday” is expected, recovering slightly on Thursday and falling again from Friday.
