Gijón, Sept 23 (EFE).- The “tierrina” shares the lead role with Víctor Manuel in the new symphonic tour that the singer-songwriter from Mieres has organized for his 75th anniversary and which will take him to the Teatro de la Laboral this Friday , in Gijón, during the first of three consecutive concerts offered in the Principality, with a devoted audience and tickets sold out for all concerts for months.
The first of the three performances of “Víctor Manuel Sinfónico”, which the artist offers in his region, followed by another Saturday morning and the closing on Sunday, has started with the mythical “Asturias”, considered by many to be an unofficial anthem of the autonomous community, followed by songs that radiate the essence of their country with references to shepherds, gourds, coals, La Santina or cities like Gijón, Laviana or their birthplace Mieres.
Accompanied by the Symphony Orchestra of the Principality of Asturias (OSPA) and the choir of the Princess of Asturias Foundation, de Mierense has delighted a devoted audience with his classic songs, including “I bring the red shirt”, “El grandfather Vítor” or the ” Dance of the Cuelebre”.
The Asturian singer-songwriter, who, according to what he has assured this week, has no intention of withdrawing from the stage, relives during his tour the songs of the recital “Vivir para sing it” and another six he composed in the following years.
As in “Living to tell the tale” this time around, a live album will also be recorded during tomorrow’s session, Saturday, which the author trusts will be “out in one go and for the first time”.
The decision to do a concert like that in 1999 was made after Víctor Manuel’s sound engineer praised the quality of that recording, despite the few rehearsals and the resources.
“I have the impression that I now sing better than 30 years ago. The experience has given me a few things, although, it is true, age has taken away others”, the singer-songwriter from Mieres assured this week.
