The Golden Shell of the 70th San Sebastian Film Festival is looking for an owner

San Sebastian, September 24 (EFE).- After eight days of screenings and with 17 titles in competition for the Golden Shell, the jury of the 70th edition of the San Sebastian Film Festival today unveils the list of winners, which they refer to as favorites movies like the Spanish “La maternal” or the Colombian “The kings of the world”.

The jury is chaired by the Argentine producer Matías Mosteirín -after Glenn Close stepped down at the last minute- and is joined by the Danish director Tea Lindeburg, the Spanish writer Rosa Montero, the Lesotho filmmaker Lemohang Jeremiah Mosese, the Icelander Hlynur Pálmason and the director of the French casting Antoinette Boulat.

The closing ceremony will begin at 9:00 PM in the Kursaal Palace, revealing the unknowns of a list of winners who have leaned in recent years on radical or minority proposals such as the Romanian “Blue Moon” (2021), the Georgian “Beginning” (2020 ) or the Brazilian “Pacificado” (2019).

The last time Spanish cinema won the Golden Shell was in 2018, with Isaki Lacuesta’s “Between Two Waters”.

This year there are several Spanish titles with options: “La maternal”, a drama about teenage mothers by Pilar Palomero from Zaragoza, “The consecration of spring”, a film by Fernando Franco about the right to sex of the disabled or “Suro” , feature film debut from the Basque director Mikel Gurrea who can provide a surprise.

Of the international films, the best received are “The Kings of the World”, by Colombian Laura Mora, a moving “road movie” with street children from Medellín, and “Sparta”, a controversial portrait of the Austrian pedophile Ulrich Seidl. .

For the second year in a row, the gender distinction disappears in the award for best performance, which, yes, is split between the main character and the cast and can be awarded tie, as happened last year.

In addition to the Golden Shell for best film, the other prizes in the official section are the Silver Shell for best director, the Jury Prize for best photography and the Jury Prize for best screenplay. In addition, the jury can award a Special Award to the film it deems suitable.

The gala kicks off at 9pm and will be broadcast live on TVE’s La 2 and on RTVE Play.
