Artemis and Marshall

On March 18, 2021, during a critical heat test at the Stanislas Space Center near St. Louis Bay, Mississippi, the first space rocket test of NASA’s space launch system launched four major RS25 engines. Marshall Center, as manager of the Michoud assembly facility, chaired several private companies participating in part of the Artemis project. For example, Boeing personnel are working to build the SLS core stage and the upper exploration stage (EUS). According to NASA, Teledyne Brown’s engineering team is building a launch vehicle stage adapter to connect the SLS center stage to a portion of the stage rocket upper stage. At the same time, according to a NASA press release, Lockheed Martin Group is welding the main structure of the Orion spacecraft, which will carry astronauts in the SLS. Test

In 2019, Blue Origin, a private aerospace company led by Jeff Bezos, signed an agreement with NASA to renovate and use the 4670 test bed built by Marshall in 1965, used to test the Saturn rocket. A press release from Blue Origin stated that Blue Origin will use the stand to test the engine that the company will produce in a new factory in Huntsville. According to a report on the Alabama Department of Commerce’s Made in Alabama website, the Blue Origin plant plan was originally codenamed “Project Rumble,” in reference to the sound of the rocket engines being tested at Marshall.
